The Early Years Foundation Stage consists of Nursery and Reception. Children are admitted to Nursery as soon after their third birthday as places allow.
In Nursery there is an emphasis on learning through active play, creating and thinking critically and playing and exploring. This is planned for as we build on the children’s individual needs and interests relating to the following seven areas of learning:
There are three Prime Areas in the Early Years Curriculum and these areCommunication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. These give children the essential skills that they need to access all areas of the curriculum and are fundamental to their development in the Early Years.
There are four Specific Areas and these are Literacy, Mathematics, Understand the World and Expressive Arts and Creative Design. The specific areas include essential skills and knowledge and provide important contexts for learning.
Children are assessed in an on-going manner, which is recorded in their ‘Profile’. Information about each child’s development will be shared with parents during parent consultations evenings.
If you would like to know any further information about the curriculum our school follows please speak to a member of staff or the school office.
