In Year 1 we are following the new National Curriculum (2014) for all subjects. The children cover all the National Curriculum subjects throughout the year through English, Phonics, Maths, Topic, Computing, R.E and Science lessons.
Our Topic lessons follow an adapted version of the Lancashire Scheme of work which is a cross curricular. Our Science, Computing and R.E lessons are taught separately. Our Computing curriculum follows the Rising Stars Scheme of work and our R.E curriculum follows the Wolverhampton SACRE curriculum. Our topics are adapted according to our children’s needs and interests. Our school is committed to providing our children with real life experiences to help them put their learning into context therefore, wherever possible children are involved in active learning this includes outdoor learning trips and visitors.
The children are assessed at three points during the year by their class teacher. This information is then shared with parents during parent consultations and written reports. In Year 1 the children also take the Phonics Screening Check in June time. This is a National check that Year 1 children complete.
